The Professional Educator Standards Board has created the option of an “authorized for field placement” status for educator preparation programs based in and approved by other states, as well as operating field experiences in Washington State. Authorization for field placement is limited to assurance that field-experiences meet minimum background check and supervisory requirements. It does not ensure compliance with Washington-based program approval standards. Authorization for field placement also aligns with the Board’s policy goal to ensure statewide access to preparation programs, in that these programs must demonstrate how their presence meets current state need in terms geographic location or nature of program offered.
Candidates who complete educator preparation programs that are neither approved nor authorized for field placement are encouraged to carefully research whether program completion will support eligibility for certification in Washington state. Candidates can begin that research at on the Pathways to Teaching website.
